Teacher Jessica: My Thai Teaching Experience (2020)

Living & Teaching in Thailand's NorthEast (Issan Region)

Coming to Thailand to teach English was one of the best decisions I have ever made for my teaching career. I have learned so much about Thai culture and was welcomed wholeheartedly by the community and the faculty at Buriram Pittayakhom High School (BP).

I would absolutely recommend this teaching opportunity to other teachers looking for an experience that will allow them to be immersed in the amazing Thai culture and teach to incredibly respectful students.

BFITS was organized and prompt at answering questions when they arose as well as assisting me along the path throughout my semester at BP school.

I do wish I would have learned a little more Thai words before starting the semester, but I was able to get by with what I knew and I have added a long list of new Thai words and phrases to my vocabulary.

One of my most found memories of Thailand will be the food and I will miss it the most. During school hours I would often eat in the canteens at school. There was an endless variety of delicious Thai food and drinks offered at extremely reasonable prices. On the weekends I would frequent the night market and the local walking street which offered everything, shopping, food, entertainment! My favourites were fresh readymade salads, Pad Thai, sushi, steamed dumplings, and delicious smoothies!

I am so grateful for the opportunity and the experience of teaching in Thailand with Bfits and will be looking forward to returning to the great Kingdom of Thailand in the future.
